Our priorities

Twelve years after Romaniaߴs accession to the European Union, national and European statistics reveal the pro-European spirit of citizens through their commitments and determination to get involved in the consolidation and development of the European project.

Our efforts in this period closely aim at demonstrating that Romania is a credible and dedicated partner able to sustain traditional policies that bring concrete benefits to the daily lives of citizens and at the same time to propose innovative solutions for strengthening the European Union.

On the 1st, of Januay 2019, Romania will inaugurate a new Trio of Presidencies, alongside Finland and Croatia. This involves close coordination regarding the working program that will guide the Trio ߴs work.

At parliamentary level, the foundations for this enhanced cooperation were established on April 23, 2018, by signing the Declaration of Cooperation between the Trio Legislature, a document proposed by the Romanian side, according to the custom.

The priorities of the parliamentary dimension of the Romanian Presidency at the EU Council come to strengthen those set at the level of the Executive, which are closely linked to the current legislative agenda of the European Union and are aimed at meeting the needs and expectations of the European citizens.

The program of the parliamentary dimension of the Romanian Presidency of the European Union Council comprises seven interparliamentary conferences, out of which four are traditional statutory conferences - the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC), Meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group on Europol, the Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CFSP/CSDP) and two thematic conferences, the first dedicated to the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, and the Second to the Future of the European Union in Bucharest, and in cooperation with the European Parliament, the Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance, in Brussels.

Through the tools we have at parliamentary level, we can clear away debates that tend not to be concluded in other formats.

The dialogue and analysis that will take place undoubtedly serve the European project. Let us have confidence and take an active part in achieving it, and Europe will be as we all want: an area of peace, freedom, security and prosperity.

This is in fact the essence of the European Union, of our European dream, of our values and our hopes, of what brings us on a common ground. It is a dream worth to go on fighting for.
