Senator Dumitrescu Cristian-Sorin was born in Bucharest in 1955.
He attended secondary and high school courses at Nicolae Iorga High School in Bucharest, and graduated in 1974. In 1978 he graduated The Bucharest University of Economic Studies (A.S.E.), Faculty of International Economic Relations, and in 1985 he obtained his degree in Legal Sciences from the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Law.
He worked as a business economist, university assistant, foreign policy journalist, and after December 1989, as a diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From 1990 to 1991, he attended the École Nationale dߴAdministration (ENA) in France (Condorcet Promotion), obtaining an international diploma in public administration. In 1996 he obtained a diploma in political science at Paris VIII University, Saint-Denis, and in 2002 he obtained his Ph.D. in Political Sciences at the same university. Since 2003 until now he has been a professor at the Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University in Bucharest.
In 1992 he joined the Democratic Party of Social Democrats in politics and has been elected as a parliamentarian in seven consecutive legislatures since 1992, holding four mandates of senator and three deputy. Since 2001 has been a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). As a parliamentarian he held many positions: interim President of the Senate in 2015, vice-president of the Senate in the legislature 1996-2000 and in 2012-2016, chairman of committee, quaestor, group leader, etc. Since 1992 until now he has been a member parliamentary friendship groups with those of the French Parliament, the Senate or the Chamber of Deputies.
In parliamentary diplomacy he was a founding member and vice-president of the Parliamentary Assembly for Economic Cooperation in the Black Sea (1992-1996), Vice-president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (1998), Head of the Romanian Parliament Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (2003), and in 2006-2007 the first Vice-President of the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.
Cristian Dumitrescu is a university professor of political sciences, author of works and studies, visiting professor at universities abroad, and participated in numerous international conferences on topics regarding international organization.
In his work as a European Parliamentarian, he was the rapporteur for the Rome II regulation, which sets out the law applicable to contractual obligations in the countries of the European Union and, as rapporteur of the Council of Europe, made recommendations for non-formal education, volunteering and entry the FYROM in Council of Europe.
In his publishing activity, he has published poetry books, reportage and is a winner of literary awards and competitions. During all his political and parliamentary work for over 27 years, Senator Cristian Dumitrescu promoted the European idea and the permanent integration of the member countries, making a political goal of promoting Romania as a European member of the European Union and N.A.T.O.
